Oceanographic Physics & Stratification

The thermocline defines the active vertical barrier between the warm solar-heated mixed layer and the cold deep ocean. In the North Indian Ocean, monsoonal wind-driven currents and salinity stratification from Bay of Bengal freshwater create pronounced haloclines and barrier layers.
